GLASS Ceramic Coating: Clear Windshield Visibility in Rain, Sleet, and Night Driving
Rain at night is the worst driving you do all year. Headlights smear into starbursts, the wipers drag across the glass like a squeegee on a dirty window, and a wet road turns every taillight into a blur. Add sleet and a cold morning and you are leaning toward the windshield trying to find the lane.
GLASS is our fix for that. It is a ceramic coating made for the windshield and every other piece of glass on the car. Water beads up and runs off, and your wipers get a much easier job. This is the product you put on in the garage before winter shows up.
This guide covers what GLASS is, why glass behaves so badly in bad weather, the parts of the kit, how to apply it, how it fits with your other products, and the questions people ask before buying.
What GLASS ceramic coating is
hyperCLEAN GLASS is a water repellent formula made to keep your visibility clear. It was designed for the windshield and the glass portions of a vehicle, and it works well on all glass. The formula is extremely hydrophobic, which is the technical way of saying water wants nothing to do with it.
The durable formula can make your wipers almost obsolete. We will not tell you to throw them out, since you will still want them for the first wipe of a dirty morning. On a coated windshield, though, a lot of the work they used to do happens on its own as the water leaves the glass.
It is also a good match if your windshield wears protection film. GLASS is perfect for windshield protection film, so you can guard the glass and keep it clear at the same time.
The coating has extreme chemical and temperature resistance. We are leading the industry with temperature resistance above 250 degrees, so a frozen morning and a hot afternoon are both fair game.
Why glass is the hardest surface to see through in winter
Paint can look a little dull and you still get to work. Glass has one job, and when it fails you notice immediately. Winter piles on everything that makes it fail.
Rain sheets instead of beading. Untreated glass holds a film of water. Every oncoming headlight lights that film up, and at night that is the glare you fight all the way home.
Sleet and slush stick. Road spray hits the windshield, clings, and your wipers smear it into a gray haze. You reach for washer fluid and the haze comes back two minutes later.
Wipers do all the work. A blade dragging across bare glass wears out and leaves streaks. A coated windshield sheds water faster, so the blade has less to push around.
A coating gives the water somewhere to go. People who put it on once tend to wonder why they waited.

How to apply GLASS ceramic coating
Start with clean glass. Everything depends on this step. The glass has to be fully clean and decontaminated before any coating goes on, because a coating can only bond to what is actually there. Spray Glass Cleaner and wipe with a Perfect Glass towel until the glass is spotless in every corner, including the edges near the trim.
Pick your spot. Work out of direct sun, on cool glass. A shaded garage is ideal. Put your gloves on before you open anything.
Load the pad. Place 10 to 15 drops on the applicator pad.
Coat half at a time. Take the windshield in two halves. Wipe the pad across the glass in overlapping passes until that half is covered, then move to the other half. Working in sections keeps you from chasing a coating that has already started to flash.
Wait for it to bead up. The coating will bead up or sweat on the surface. That is your signal to start the removal.
Level it, then buff it. Use The Leveler for the initial wipe, then do a final buff with the VersaTowel. Check the glass from a couple of angles, and look again from inside the car, because that is where leftover haze tends to show.
After you finish, keep the glass dry for a while. Follow standard coating practice and let it settle before it sees water. Wiper blades matter too. Wipe them clean before you drive off, since a dirty blade drags grit across your fresh coating.
GLASS and the rest of your winter routine
The coating is only as good as the glass underneath it. The Glass Cleaning Kit is a good partner for that reason. If you would rather build your own, grab Glass Cleaner and a Perfect Glass towel and you have the same setup.
For the removal steps, keep The Leveler and the VersaTowel close. Those are the two towels we recommend for the job.
The paint needs its own protection when the salt and slush arrive. Our UNO coating covers the paint side. Coat the glass with GLASS and the paint with UNO, and the whole car handles winter water the same way.
